Reluctance motors
The reluctance motor combines the properties of an asynchronous and synchronous machine. The special feature is a rotor with pronounced poles and a damper cage. As a result, the reluctance motor starts up asynchronously and then switches to synchronism. It runs at synchronous speed until the reaction torque (synchronous stall torque or out-of-step torque) is exceeded.

This property makes the reluctance motor interesting for many drive applications in which the more complex servo technology or asynchronous motors with encoder systems were previously used. These are primarily systems where synchronization is required for several drives or where constant speeds are required for different loads. Another advantage is the robust, maintenance-free design.
As the normal stator of the asynchronous motor is used for the reluctance motor, all mechanical variants that are available for the asynchronous motor can be realized in principle. The motors can also be optionally equipped with a mechanical spring-applied brake (preferably a noise-reduced version).
HEW manufactures the insulation system in thermal class F as standard. A high-quality enameled wire is used and the windings are manufactured with phase insulation. This guarantees high electrical strength against stresses caused by switching voltages and during operation on the frequency inverter.
The motors can optionally be equipped with a PTC thermistor or thermal switch as motor protection. The reluctance motors are available in 4 and 6-pole versions. Special windings for special drive solutions are available on request.
